WIDGETS FOR WINDOWS
Beyond the
Widgets board.
Useful little things, placed on the desktop you already use.
Windows does have widgets
Windows 11 includes a Widgets board, accessible from the taskbar or with Windows + W. It offers information cards and feeds. That is different from keeping individual customizable cards on the desktop background.
Desktop widgets versus a board
Widgets is being built as a standalone system-tray app. It keeps a collection of individual widget windows on your desktop. You can unlock them, arrange them, change themes, and then lock the layout behind your regular windows. It does not modify the Windows Widgets board.
What about the old Windows gadgets?
This app does not use or re-enable the retired Windows Desktop Gadgets platform. Its interface runs in isolated Chromium renderers with Node access disabled. Desktop placement uses a small Windows bridge to the Explorer desktop window hierarchy, which must be tested against Windows updates.
Release status and limitations
The Windows installer is in development. Explorer restarts, Show Desktop, DPI scaling, multiple monitors, lock/unlock, and sleep/wake need real-device verification. Until that testing is complete, no Windows compatibility guarantee is made. You can explore the collection in the browser preview now.
